The BiW16 is a so-called sea scow in fisherman implementation. The ship has been built in 1948 by ship yard Hakvoort at Monnickendam. Until 1995 the ship has fished from Uitdam under fishery number BiW16 (BiW stands for Broek in Waterland). As from 1958 it was no longer under sail and only fished on the engine.
Fortunately the ship has been kept entirely in it's original state, and thus has gotten a national monument status. This means that the ship has a large open tank with holds for the fish, and a covered forecastle with banks, a stove and cupboard-bed. It goes without saying that it is a very special experience to sail the seas with a sailing monument like this.

We could for example sail to Marken to smoke eel or eat fish, or to sail to Volendam to have a group photo in traditional costumes taken. Around 5 o'clock in the afternoon the ship will return to the port of Monnickendam. From Sunday till Thursday it is also possible to sail half day cruises.
